The joke is that oftentimes news stories will discuss the “horrors of online dating”, generally involving rape and murder and the like. But here he just got married and got his wife pregnant on accident. It’s somewhat of a non-joke.
I think that’s the point. They’re saying that the “OMGONLINEDATINGISHORRIBLEANDONLYPEDOSAND12YEAROLDSDOIT” is pretty narrow-minded and outdated. These days, the real horror of online dating is *gasp* it’s exactly like regular dating! *people start screaming and rioting in the streets*
As someone actually pregnant and engaged to the love of my life who lived a state away and whom I met online, I can semi-relate to this comic. (He’s actually very happy we’re expecting xD)
She swaps the hand she holds the pregnancy test with between the last two panels, probably to scratch a hairy mole on her left arm. I’m sure that’s what he’s shocked about. He must have never noticed it before.

I don’t get it. He’s apprehensive about having a child. Why is it funny or clever?

Of course, I could be overthinking it.

This confuses me because I thought the only reason people still got married was for breeding purposes.
That would be incorrect sir.
